HRH The Duchess of Cornwall to launch centre of excellence project at Wiltshire College & University Centre

HRH The Duchess of Cornwall will visit Wiltshire College & University Centre’s Lackham campus on Friday 14th December to officially launch the £9million development project.

At Lackham, where the College’s renowned land-based courses are offered, work is set to start on the construction of new state-of-the-art buildings which will further develop the site as a regional training centre of excellence.

The developments include the building of a new Agricultural Technology Centre, the expansion of higher education facilities, and the replacement of the existing dairy on the Lackham farm with a high-tech robotic milking parlour and new dairy training buildings.

Her Royal Highness will mark the start of the exciting project by visiting the campus to view the plans and to meet the students who will demonstrate the latest technological developments in agricultural engineering as well as putting on a show of traditional skills in a tractor strip-and-build race.

Amanda Burnside, College Principal, said: “Lackham already has an excellent reputation in teaching quality. The investment in the campus and farm will elevate our position as a real leader in agricultural training in the region and beyond.”

The College was awarded £22million of government Local Growth Fund money via the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (SWLEP) in 2017 to invest in both its Salisbury and Lackham campuses. Work on both campuses will be completed by 2021.
