Painting and decorating students brush up on their skills in community project

The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust headquarters had a summer spruce thanks to Wiltshire College students wanting to brush up on their painting and decorating skills.

Four Foundation Studies students have been working with the painting and decorating team at the Trowbridge campus throughout the academic year and in addition to spending time in the workshop, enjoyed putting the skills they have learned into practice, painting the exterior walls of the HQ building, canal side museum, café and gift shop and the fences, which is based in Devizes.

Bryan Piper, a Learning Support Technician for Painting and Decorating said: “The manager from the Canal Trust asked us if we might be able to help and we thought it would be a fantastic opportunity for students who have been really interested in painting and decorating and who will be joining us on the Level 1 next academic year.

“They all worked very hard and did a fantastic job practicing the skills they have learned by painting the building and ebony straining the fences.

“It was great experience for them all.”
