About this course
|
In this course you will learn about the theory of beauty, anatomy and physiology. You will also have ‘hands on’ practical experience including manicure, pedicure, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, make-up, facials and waxing.
You will work in reception and learn how to maintain confidential client records, stock control, handling money, booking appointments and answering the phone.
You may have the opportunity to participate in a work placement or you may secure part-time employment at a salon.
The course may include visits to beauty exhibitions, residential trips and shows, and the opportunity to take part in national competitions.
You will need a uniform and a kit for this course, order forms will be sent out prior to the course starting. In cases of financial hardship funds may be available to help.
During the course you will build up a portfolio of evidence. You will have to work on clients to complete the qualification. You must ensure you can provide your clients and have family members and friends who are willing to come in to the College for treatments with you. The services provided will be charged for as indicated in the Aspire Salon price list. |

How will I be assessed?
|
| You will be assessed in two ways in each unit. You will have to demonstrate that you have mastered the practical skills required for the unit by working on clients in the Aspire College Beauty salons. You will also have to demonstrate you have acquired the knowledge and understanding for the unit by passing your online exam. You will also have some assignments and coursework as part of your studies. |

Will I have to study at home?
|
| A minimum of 2-hours a week home study is required. Most weeks you will have to sit an online exam. You will need to revise for these exams as the pass mark is 70%. |

Are there any additional costs
|
Beauty Uniform and beauty kit is required for this course. Order forms will be sent out prior to the course starting. The approximate cost of the Kit is £150 and the uniform £70
We also arrange educational visits as part of the course and the cost of this is approximately £50.00
There is a charge made to all clients who are using the Aspire Beauty Salon. |

Entry requirements

| 3 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths or Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 1 including Application of Number at Level 1. A satisfactory reference. Successful completion of a trade activity to include a practical and written task. |

Tutorial Services
|
As a full-time student at Wiltshire College, you will be allocated a personal tutor and will receive a group tutorial session of at least one hour per week and a one-to-one personal tutorial on a regular basis.
The purpose of the tutorial is to ensure that you are making the necessary progress towards the achievement of your main qualification aim and to address any academic or personal issues that you may wish to raise. |

Course Fees
|
Students aged 18 or under on the 31st of August 2010 will not be required to pay.
Students aged 19 or over on the 31st August 2010 will pay a reduced rate of £120 if you meet one of the criteria listed here. All other applicants will be expected to pay the full course cost of £870 |
