Final Year
|
If you registered for the HND in the first year and enrol for the third year you can use the HNC subjects to 'top-up' to a full HND without paying extra registration fees. This is equivalent to the second year of a degree programme (level 5). If you intend to obtain the HNC only, the Tutor will transfer your registration and your HNC will be awarded after satisfactory completion of the first two years. Should you wish to progress to HND the units are:
- Health, Safety and Risk Assessment
- Quality and Business Improvement
- Design for Manufacture
- Further Analytical Methods
- Electrical, Electronic and Digital Principles
|

Career prospects and opportunities
|
Most companies recognise achievement at HNC and will offer progression to a higher level. Forces personnel regularly use the HNC as a means to help them gain promotion.
It is recommended that you register on the HND programme (3 years) and we provide extra units (marked * ) to enable you to do this easily. Should you wish to leave at the end of two years we can transfer you to the HNC and you will will receive the HNC diploma. The HND (now the second year of degree) can then be picked up later if you wish. |

Assessment Methods
|
| The course is assessed by a mixture of continuous assessment methods using coursework assignments to be handed in by fixed deadlines, and some written assessments for higher grades. Any coursework referred may be resubmitted to improve the grade. Any examinations failed can be resat once. On successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate from Edexcel. This certificate allows entry into the majority of Engineering based university degree courses (usually skipping the first year), a 'top-up' to HND/Foundation Degree (a third year) or greatly improved job prospects. |

Tutorial
|
| We supply optional 'drop-in' tutorial sessions for help and advice on one evening a week staffed by subject specialists. These run from 6.30-8.00pm on Tuesday evenings and are open to all Engineering students. |
| |
Entry requirements
|
Suitable technical subject qualifications at level 3, these include, 2 'A/AS' levels at Grade C or above, ideally including Maths and a Science, or a National Diploma/Extended Diploma in Engineering grades MM or above. City and Guilds III or National students with pass grades only are unlikely to cope with the academic level and will probably need to do part of the National Diploma in Engineering first as a bridging course. Please discuss this with the admissions tutor.
Applications from mature candidates are welcomed and considered on an individual basis. Where English is not the applicant's first language an IELTS score of 6 or TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 217 (computer-based) or equivalent qualification, will normally be required. |
