About the course

The BA(Hons) Creative Digital Media top-up year follows on from the Foundation Degree in Creative Digital Media. Find out more here.

The BA (Hons) Creative Digital Media (Work Based Learning) is a one year top-up qualification which is available to students who have successfully completed the University of Bath Foundation Degree in Creative Digital Media (or Digital Media Arts) with an average mark of 55%.

The course is based around two major projects; one practical which involves the production of a major piece of work over the whole year; the second a written project which will explore some aspect of Creative Digital Media in an industrial context. In addition, the study of four management units is undertaken.

Year 1 modules

The four management units are:

  • An Introduction to Financial and Non-Financial Resources (3 credits)
  • Managing Information and Quality (3 credits)
  • Managing Performance (3 credits)
  • Recruitment and Selection (3 credits)

The major written project units are:

  • Research Methods (6 credits)
  • Work Based Research Project (18 credits)

The four units that make up the practical production are:

  • Proposal (6 credits)
  • Pre-Production (6 credits)
  • Production (6 credits)
  • Post-Production (6 credits)

The number of credits that each unit is gives an indication of the relative size of that unit.

 

Career prospects and opportunities

Many of the students on the current final year are working towards setting up their own business or working freelance in video production, but a wide range of career opportunities exist for dedicated and ambitious students.

It is expected that you will attend industry networking events regularly to build relationships with other creative practitioners, as well as developing a knowledge and understanding of the Creative Industries as a whole.

 

Assessment Methods

Assessment is through evaluated practical projects and written assignments. Students are assessed on technical, organisational, creative and production skills. There is a strong emphasis on team work, to reflect industry practice.
 

Tutorial

As a student on a higher education course at Wiltshire College you will have a tutor with whom you can discuss your academic progress. Students will frequently meet with their tutor as a group, and meet one-to-one with their personal tutors at least twice a year. This helps ensure you make good progress towards your qualification, and lets you discuss issues relating to your academic performance.
 

Entry requirements

You will be expected to have successfully completed a University of Bath Foundation Degree in Creative Digital Media (or Digital Media Arts) and have achieved a minimum average grade profile of 55%.

In addition, a portfolio of evidence of work based learning covering 150-hours of relevant work experience.

Where English is not the applicant’s first language an IELTS score of 6 or TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 217 (computer-based) or equivalent qualification, will normally be required.

It will be the student’s responsibility to identify and agree a suitable work-based learning environment with their tutor in which they can carry out the work-based research project. This must be in place at the time of admission.

Interview

Applicants may be expected to attend an interview, but will usually be requested to provide a portfolio demonstrating technical and artistic skill and enthusiasm for their subject.
