Why study at Lackham?
The campus at Lackham is set in the beautiful estate of Lackham House bordering the river Avon and the outskirts of the picturesque and thanks to the filming of Harry Potter and many costume dramas, famous village of Lacock. The flora and fauna that surrounds you enhances the whole experience - from giant lemons growing in the walled garden to the laurel maze nestling amongst the colourful gardens.
The campus is a busy, but relaxed place to be with much to see and do. It is made up of the college farm, mixed woodland providing relaxing walks, an Animal Centre, well-equipped and comfortable Halls of Residence, extensive sports fields and modern teaching facilities with highly trained staff.
The Lackham Country Park and Museum of Rural Life provides an insight into the history of rural Wiltshire and offers a programme of events throughout the year.
Experience
The Avon Centre is where most of the social action occurs at Lackham. Social and sporting events are organised on weekday evenings and weekends in and around the College bar or sports hall. There are also plenty of organised excursions to local cinema and bowling facilities, the supermarket and days out. All our students are encouraged to socialise and take part in extra curricular activities.
Students at Lackham have a fantastic time during RAG week. In each of the last three years they have raised up to £5,000 for young people's cancer charities and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, with a typical mix of fun and fund raising activities. The extensive sports facilities at Lackham include a tennis court, gym, rugby and football pitches and sports hall on campus. You can either join teams or just use the facilities for fun.
The Library and Learning Resource Centre has over 20,000 items including DVDs, CD ROMs and online databases. Staff are always on hand to help you find information to support your course and to use the resources available. The library has individual and group study areas, computers, printers and photocopiers, scanners and video playback machines.
If you want to reach out further afield we have great transport links with Bath, Bristol and Swindon from the main line railway station at Chippenham which is only four-miles away. Chippenham is a lively town with a cinema, plenty of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Good country pubs can be found even closer to Lackham in the National Trust village of Lacock.
