Introduction for Parents
We offer an extremely broad range
of vocational courses suitable for learners of all abilities, and
we pride ourselves in giving high levels of support ensuring that
all learners achieve their personal goals.
It is acknowledged by inspectors and others that we not only provide high quality programmes but also add value to young adults' qualifications and life chances, so ensuring that they get the best possible start in their higher education or working life.
As parents you want to be reassured that your son or daughter is progressing well throughout their course. In order to do this we provide you with written reports and other progress checks. We are keen to establish good 'home' links and develop dialogue with parents.
Our courses are designed to reflect current industrial standards and ensure that learners stand the best possible chance of progressing either into employment or higher education. Assessment methods will vary but coursework, project work and end tests can be expected.
Our learning facilities are extensive with large, well
stocked learning resource centres including access to the Internet/Intranet,
books, magazines and periodicals. As a college we have over 1220 high
specification computers which are replaced every four years. Learners
have access to specialist software which enables them
to be appropriately trained in their area of expertise.
We have developed our own Virtual Learning Environment called 'eStudy' where course resources, forums and other shared information can be accessed by students both at college and home via the Internet.
Ensuring good attendance is a priority for programme teams and Personal Tutors as there is a proven close correlation between this and successful student achievement.
We also expect students to respect the rules of the College and:
- attend all classes
- be punctual
- complete assignments & project work on time & to the best of their ability
- respect College property, staff and other learners
- behave responsibly and use equipment safely
Students may not have to attend college every day of the week, but all students will need to complete further work in their own time, either at home or in the college libraries and learning resources areas.
Learners will also have the opportunity to complete additional qualifications alongside their main courses. These will complement their main course and improve their range of qualifications, skills and employability.
