Duration: Two years, Full Time
This course will provide you with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for a career in sports coaching or progression to a full degree. Throughout both years of the course you will be given the opportunity to explore different coaching, teaching and learning styles and how these are used in coaching practice. You will be able to develop a range of coaching skills along with other areas such as psychology, nutrition and performance analysis and understand how to apply these effectively in a wide range of sporting environments.
The structure of the course focuses strongly on the area of sports coaching and aims to introduce you to a range of areas such as:
- Principles of Sports Coaching
- Sport and Exercise Psychology
- Nutrition for Sport and Exercise
- Skill Acquisition in Sport
- Introduction to Coaching Pedagogy
- Analysis of Sports Performance
- Physical Education
In the second year you will be required to undertake work experience related to sports coaching or sports development. You will also undertake an individual research project, which will allow you to engage in an in-depth study of an area of particular interest or relevance to yourself. There are no examinations.
