This course offers you a higher education qualification and training in the world of business and international trade. It provides a specialist business education over a two year period, linked to professional body requirements (for example the Chartered Management Institute) and ensures a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required to progress into employment or continued undergraduate studies. The programme is ideal for learners who wish to gain an undergraduate qualification that prepares them for employment in all the business functional areas including general management, human resources, sales and marketing, international trade, and finance. Previous successful HND Business graduates have gone straight into employment or continues their studies by doing a top-up degree or entering other full-time degree qualifications at UK universities. This HND in Business provides you with an opportunity to study locally for a higher education business qualification which you can use as a means to gain employment of continue your full-time studies.
The HND in Business gives you insight into all of the core functional areas of business and organisation management. You will study 16 units, learning about the business environment, organisational behaviour, marketing, finance and human resource management. You will also study business law, management and complete a research project. In addition to this, a further option will be specialised study in international aspects of business.
You will have a timetable covering classes for three days a week which provides the opportunity to maintain part-time work or other commitments during the rest of the week. You will be expected to carry out work on assessments and reading outside the timetabled hours using our Higher Education Study area and/or working from home via our eLearning environment. You will study in small and medium sized groups using a variety of methods including research and group work, traditional classes, seminars and guided learning.
The course is continuously assessed using reports, presentations, debates and other methods to develop your business communication confidence and skills.
There is also the option of supplementing one of your taught units for a work experience period during the second year.
Throughout the programme you will have a Personal Tutor who you will meet with regularly to discuss your progress and facilitate your learning experience.
